Aud’s program for the morning, before the conference began, includes a breakfast meeting with the Foreign Ministers of Brazil, Indonesia, India, South Africa and Turkey- The BIIST block.
After meeting The BIIST block, there was an interview scheduled with the Africa United Media Group.
The BIIST block were not only emerging economic giants. They were also a powerful political and military bloc. Although Brazil is the only member of BIIST that has sent troops to add to the African Union Forces, the other members of BIIST have made it very clear they would also provide troops and equipment if necessary.
The Norwegian Hearings is now the final attempt to resolve the crisis peacefully. In the two years prior to the Norwegian Hearings, tensions have almost reached boiling point.
African troops have already exchange machine gun fire with US troops outside Camp NoE. Six months earlier, the Chinese dispatched a Type 054A Frigate to the West Coast of Africa. The Frigate was now part of the African Union Force.
The Force, in addition to the Chinese frigate, was composed of 15 Chinese Chengdu F-7s, 15 Dassault Dornier Alpha Jets, 25 armed helicopters, 8 military transport aircraft, and 8 battalions of between 500-600 men and women.
Several Arab countries have committed troops and most importantly military hardware. From Asia, the North Koreans have 250 special forces on the ground. The Vietnamese, and the Indonesians have given troop commitments.
From South America, Brazil and Venezuela have already sent troops to join 3500 Cuban troops already stationed in West Africa.
All the countries supporting the African Union, were fed up with super power bullying, hypocrisy and exploitation. Others backed the African Union as they saw an opportunity to gain super power status. Others needed African raw materials and business deals.
As the Norwegian Hearings started, the Chinese deployed a further 12 chengdu J-10B fighter jets. This was a clear declaration of their intent to back the Africans should the talks fail.
Although the J-10B is a lightweight multirole fighter aircraft, it is capable of all-weather operation, configured with a delta wing and canard design, with fly-by-wire flight controls.
The aircraft’s internal armament consists of a Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-23 twin-barrel cannon. Just to emphasize how serious the Chinese are, PL-8 and PL-9 which are short-range air-to-air missiles accompanied the planes.
China also announced plans to arm the planes with PL-11 and PL-12, medium-range radar-guided air-to-air missiles if necessary. The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also announced that laser-guided bombs, anti-ship missiles such as the YJ-9K and anti-radiation missiles such as the PJ-9 will be deployed with the J-10Bs.
The world now holds its breath as war seem imminent even as the talks are about to start in Oslo. But hopes are high that the Norwegian hearings will prevent war.
